If that sounds like you, don’t worry – I was in exactly the same boat.
I practiced, and practiced, and YouTubed, and practiced some more, yet after two years, my handicap barely budged.
Eventually, I bit the bullet and decided to search for a PGA professional to help me with my game. And it was the best decision I ever made.

What should you look for in a golf pro?
Not all PGA golf professionals are the same. In fact, you’ll rarely find one similar to another.
Each will have different teaching philosophies, different personalities and different drills for you to work on to try and get better.
Some will spend most of your lesson talking, while others will watch you hit dozens of balls and only offer input where they see fit.
Some you will ‘click’ with, and some you will not. That’s human nature.
The most important thing when searching for a golf pro is to find one you are comfortable with.
After all, it’s likely you’ll be spending a decent chunk of money with them over the ensuing months to help reach your goals (but we’ll get to price shortly).
If you hate their bad jokes, find another pro.
If you don’t feel like you’re improving after a few lessons, find another pro.
If you don’t see them using the latest in Trackman or FlightScope technology, find another pro.
You are not obligated to keep going back to the same teacher, only to get the same average results.
Find someone who you are comfortable with, and can relate to their teaching, and you will improve far, far quicker.
What is the price of golf lessons?
Prices can vary from pro to pro, but as a general rule, a 30-minute lesson will cost around $50-$60 while a 60-minute lesson will cost around $100.
Some of the pricing will depend on whether the pro uses the latest in golf technology, such as Trackman or FlightScope as mentioned above.
This equipment gives the pro real-time flight data every time you hit a shot – such as your angle of attack, club face positioning, club speed, launch angle and more – which they can use to diagnose your swing flaws, and then determine how to correct them.
Frankly, if you rock up to your lesson and don’t see your pro using this technology, that’s a red flag – and I’d recommend finding one who does.
After all, if they’re not using every means possible to help you improve, it makes sense to assume you will improve at a slower rate than pros who do utilise the latest technology.
